Polar bear
The first polar bear arrive at the San Diego Zoo in
1917. The first polar bear was displayed in a cage.
In 1926 a new polar bear grotto was complete at the San Diego
Zoo. The San Diego Zoo has the polar bear plunge exhibit
which is one of the largest polar bear exhibit in the
world.
The duck pond where the polar bear resides at the San Diego
Zoo is chilled to 55 - 60 degrees Fahrenheit. This ensures the
comfort of the polar bear at the San Diego Zoo.

Polar bear facts
Male polar bears are 8 to 11 feet long. Male
polar bears weigh 500 to 1,100 pounds but can reach as much as
1,500 pounds. Female polar bears are smaller, measuring 6
to 8 feet long. Female polar bears weigh from 350 to 600
pounds, occasionally reaching 700 pounds.
Polar bear habitat
Polar bear habitat is the entire Arctic
region. Polar bears are comfortable in both the water and
on land. Polar bears can be found on pack ice, coastal islands,
coastlines and even out in Arctic waters. Polar
bears are exceptional swimmers.
