Giraffe
A giraffe is the tallest of all living
land mammals. Each giraffe has its own unique pattern
of coat markings. There are nine species of giraffe. Below
are information on giraffe facts, giraffe habitat and some
giraffe pictures of San Diego Zoo giraffes.
Giraffe facts
Adult male giraffes are about 15-18 feet (4.6-5.5
m) tall, whereas adult female giraffes are shorter at 13-16
feet (4-4.8 m) tall. Adult male giraffes weigh between
1,764-4,255 pounds (800-,930 kg), while adult female giraffes
weigh only 1,213-2,601 pounds (550-1,180 kg).
Giraffe habitat
Giraffes habitat includes open African savannah areas and
wooded grasslands. Because of giraffe habitat, sometimes a
giraffe is referred to as African giraffe.
